lèse majesté american style

This new Dixie Chicks movie Shut Up and Sing is looking like a good time, judging by the trailers, which say, “If you think we’re living in a free society, wait until you disagree with it.”

Indeed, you won’t see those ads on NBC, which said it won’t run them because they are disparaging to the President — or at least that’s what the distributors say the network told them.

For its part, NBC says it won’t run any ads on issues of public controversy, such as the war.

This raises a question. Are these ads, which promote a movie, any more “about the war” than are ads for the US Army, which promote joining the army…to go to the war?

Check the ads out here.
