girls on film

I don't care much about the Oscars, but someone sent me a ballot and I noticed something faintly interesting. Of the five films nominated for best film and best directing, all but one (Munich) also feature a nominee for best actor or supporting actor. Only two of them feature a nominated actress, and both of them are supporting.

To look at it another way, none of the best actress nominees appear in any of the best film nominees.

Do the members of the Academy favor films that feature men? Are men better at making their movies great? Or are star vehicles simply more likely to be designed for men? Maybe Jon Stewart will figure it out for us. (Aha, there's a reason to watch.)

See the nominations here.
