The insistence by the White House on releasing information through background sources, e.g. “a senior administration official said…” has grown to ridiculous proportions. What used to be purposeful obfuscation has become mindless, pointless habit.

See if you can puzzle out the identity of the mystery official quoted in this release.

The AP follows the protocol even as it ridicules the episode in its coverage.
