we are the economy

A citizen-viewer in the Far West has created an online petition called We Are the Economy, pointing out that the source of the current problem is housing and demanding that legislation address that problem. It reads:

The U.S. government now controls 90% of new mortgages on homes. We’re paying for this, and we should benefit.

The government should:
* Reduce mortgage interest rates by at least 1%, and:
* Match down payments up to $25,000.
* Help both new buyers and current homeowners (via refinancing) this way.

The petition was inspired by this op-ed piece in the NYTimes, by real estate professor Chris Mayer. Housing is the core of the problem. Helping us all afford it is the fairest, most direct way to protect our economy.
